Pork rind, also known as pork skin, is the skin of a pig after all hair is shaved. It is milky white, tough, soft, and used in many dishes. Pork skin nourishes blood, increases milk production, treats anemia caused by blood loss, heals colitis, and improves appearance. In addition, the thickness, structure, and function of pork skin are relatively similar to human skin; which has been utilized by the dermatology and cosmetic industries to study the effects of ultraviolet rays on the skin and the scarring process of wounds. Pork skin can also be applied on burns to prevent infection while waiting for implantation.
