Chicken Farming

Poultry health is a very important prerequisite for optimizing egg and meat production. There are a lot of factors that affect the growth and quality of poultry. Our animal nutrition consultants have been constantly researching to create chicken breeds that ensure standards, high performance, and outstanding quality.

• Breeder: CJ is proud to have an advanced large-scaled farm system spreading across the country. CJ’s first breeder farm was established in 2010 at Cay Dau hamlet, Hieu Liem commune, Tan Uyen district, Binh Duong province, which is a prime location 24km from the center of Tan Uyen district. 1-day-old breeders are imported directly from the US and thoroughly raised for about 24 weeks. Afterward, they start producing eggs. In this farm, chicken eggs are selected and classified. Some are incubated to produce chicks, the others are distributed to a system of large stores and supermarkets across the country. On average, a breeder raised in CJ farms provides about 200 eggs during its lifetime, and CJ farms supply more than 3.6 million breeders for the market every month. Each farm operates under a closed breeding model combined with modern technology to ensure biosafety, food safety, hygiene, and environmental protection, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of poultry production.

• Breeder raising technology:

  • Newly imported breeders must be immediately transferred to the nursery with gentle and careful handling.

  • Feed chickens with rice bran, water mixed with electrolyte solution (acid 4way), vitamins (permasol, AD3E, etc.), and antibiotics (ENRO, PULMOTIL, etc.) depending on the status and health of the chickens.

  • Nursery period: lasts 14-21 days depending on the health of the chicks and the weather conditions.

  • Note: Any reduction in the nursery temperature must be based on observations of the health of the chickens and the weather conditions during the nursery. It is required to regularly monitor the temperature of the coop by using a thermometer or observing whether the chickens gather due to lack of heat or spread out due to excessive heat.

All works including preparing coops, feeding, vaccination, monitoring the health of the chickens are done methodically and scientifically by CJ staff. In each phase of a chicken’s lifetime like laying eggs or coming into incubation, it must be carefully observed and selected to meet prescribed standards such as: the minimum weight of each egg must be 50 grams; each egg must be clean, intact, not cracked, broken, distorted, deformed, and has the standard color of its breed. Besides, thanks to the successful application of the multi-stage incubation technique, both the success rate and the quality increase. Newly-born chicks are distributed directly to suppliers or broiler farms.

• Broilers: Vietnamese poultry farmers used to focus on thoroughbreds only. However, due to many difficulties caused by the pandemic, the growth rate and productivity have been decreased. Through the research and development process, CJ introduced the Ross 308 broiler breed - one of the most productive chicken breeds in the market with an extremely fast growth rate. In CJ’s farms, it only takes 42 days for a chick to grow up and reach 2.7-2.8kg, which is highly efficient. Currently, it ensures the fastest break-even and becomes the first choice for poultry farmers.

• Hatchery: CJ’s farm system includes 03 specialized hatcheries, each of which is equipped with 12 incubators, 12 hatchers, the modern multi-stage incubation technology, and covers an area of 1.2 hectares. Every month a farm provides more than 3.6 million chickens which are all certified to ensure veterinary safety and hygiene conditions. Qualified breeder eggs are sterilized to avoid infection and destroy pathogens and put into a multi-stage incubator system. The incubation process lasts 18-19 days. The eggs are then screened, and unfertilized eggs are taken out. Fertilized eggs are moved to modern hatchers, and deliver chicks after 2-3 days. One-day-old chicks are selected, classified, and vaccinated. Then some are packed in cartons and delivered to customers, the others are delivered to broiler farms by specialized vehicles.
